DismissQ Privacy
Privacy Policy
This policy explains how DismissQ collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects information when schools use the DismissQ application and related services.
Effective date: August 17, 2026 · Last updated: August 17, 2026
1. About DismissQ
DismissQ is a school dismissal management service used by schools and authorized school personnel to coordinate student pickup, check-in, queue, loading, and dismissal activities. This Privacy Policy applies to the DismissQ mobile application, web-based displays and administrative tools, support pages, and related services.
The school or school district determines which student and staff information is provided to DismissQ and how the service is used. DismissQ processes that information to provide services to the school.
2. Information DismissQ Processes
Depending on the information provided by a school and the features it uses, DismissQ may process:
- School information: school or organization name, school code, dismissal lanes, operational settings, and other configuration information.
- Authorized-user information: staff name, user code, assigned role, school association, access credentials, device or session identifiers, and actions taken within the service.
- Student roster information: student name, grade, teacher or classroom, student number or other school-assigned identifier, QR code, family or pickup grouping, and assigned dismissal lane.
- Dismissal activity: check-in, queue, loading, and dismissed status; relevant timestamps; assigned lanes; and the authorized users associated with dismissal actions.
- Support information: information included in emails, support requests, or other communications with DismissQ.
- Technical and security information: limited device, session, diagnostic, error, and security information reasonably needed to operate, troubleshoot, and protect the service.
3. Information DismissQ Does Not Currently Collect
DismissQ does not currently collect payments or payment-card information and does not use RevenueCat for subscriptions or purchases. DismissQ does not currently use absence, early-dismissal, or general student-note features. DismissQ is not designed to collect precise geolocation data, biometric information, health records, or student photographs.
Schools should not enter unnecessary sensitive personal information into DismissQ.
4. How Information Is Used
DismissQ uses information only as reasonably necessary to:
- Provide QR-code and manual student check-in and dismissal workflows.
- Display current dismissal status to authorized school personnel and approved school displays.
- Synchronize school-authorized information across authorized devices.
- Manage school configurations, user access, dismissal lanes, and operational records.
- Provide support, investigate errors, and improve service reliability.
- Protect the service, prevent misuse, and respond to security incidents.
- Comply with applicable law and contractual obligations.
5. QR Codes and Camera Access
When an authorized user chooses to scan a dismissal QR code, DismissQ uses the device camera to read that code and identify the corresponding school-authorized student or pickup group. Camera access is used for scanning within the app. DismissQ does not use the camera for advertising or unrelated tracking.
6. Storage and Service Providers
DismissQ stores and processes school-authorized information using cloud infrastructure and database services, including Supabase. Authorized devices may also temporarily cache information needed for the application to function, synchronize, and remain usable during normal school operations.
DismissQ may use carefully selected service providers for infrastructure, hosting, application distribution, diagnostics, security, and support. Those providers may process information only to perform services for DismissQ and are not authorized by DismissQ to sell student information or use it for their own advertising.
7. How Information Is Shared
DismissQ may disclose information only:
- To the school or district that provided or controls the information and its authorized personnel.
- To service providers that support the operation, security, hosting, or maintenance of DismissQ.
- When directed or authorized by the school or district.
- When required by law, legal process, or a valid governmental request.
- When reasonably necessary to investigate fraud or misuse, protect the service, respond to a security incident, or protect the rights and safety of DismissQ, schools, users, or others.
DismissQ does not sell personal information or student data. DismissQ does not use or disclose student data for targeted advertising, create advertising profiles of students, or track users across unrelated services for advertising purposes.
8. Projected and Shared Displays
Schools may choose to show limited dismissal information on projected or shared displays for operational use. Schools are responsible for positioning and supervising these displays appropriately and for limiting access to authorized personnel and intended viewers. DismissQ designs these displays for temporary, school-controlled dismissal operations rather than permanent public posting.
9. School Control and Family Requests
Schools and districts control the educational records they provide to DismissQ. Authorized school administrators may add, correct, or delete student and staff records using available administrative features. Parents, guardians, eligible students, and school employees seeking access to, correction of, or deletion of school-controlled records should ordinarily contact the relevant school or district first.
DismissQ will assist schools with verified requests as required by applicable law and the agreement with the school. DismissQ does not independently determine a parent's or guardian's right to access an education record controlled by a school.
10. Data Retention and Deletion
DismissQ retains information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide and secure the service, support school operations, satisfy the applicable agreement, resolve disputes, and comply with legal obligations. Different categories of information may have different retention periods.
Authorized school administrators may delete records through available administrative features. A school or district may also request deletion of its account or organization-level data by contacting DismissQ. After verification, DismissQ will process the request within the period required by the applicable agreement or law; otherwise, verified requests are generally completed within 30 days.
Limited information may be retained when required for security, legal compliance, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or documentation of the deletion request. DismissQ will not retain school data merely to use it for advertising or sale.
11. Student Privacy
DismissQ is intended for use by schools and authorized adults, not for independent use by children. Student information is provided or authorized by a school for the educational and operational purpose of managing dismissal. DismissQ does not knowingly collect student information directly from children for advertising, behavioral profiling, or unrelated commercial purposes.
When applicable, DismissQ supports schools in meeting their obligations under student privacy laws and contractual requirements, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and applicable state student-data privacy laws. A school remains responsible for determining whether and how it may provide education records to its service providers.
12. Security
DismissQ uses administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect school, student, staff, dismissal, and session information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, loss, or misuse. DismissQ limits access to information according to operational need and works to identify and address security risks. No system or method of transmission is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
13. Security Incidents
If DismissQ confirms a security incident affecting school-controlled personal information, DismissQ will investigate, take reasonable steps to contain and remediate the incident, and notify affected schools or districts as required by applicable law and contract.
14. Changes to This Policy
DismissQ may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the service, legal requirements, or privacy practices. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page identifies the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated when required by law or an applicable school agreement.
